ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Revilo Pendleton Oliver (1908–1994), Professor of Classics at the University of Illinois, was a man of stunning erudition: he read eleven languages, including Sanskrit, and for more than half a century wrote scholarly articles in four languages for leading academic publications in the United States and Europe. Born in Texas, Revilo Oliver received his undergraduate degree at Pomona College and his doctorate at the University of Illinois under William Abbot Oldfather. His first book was The Little Clay Cart, an annotated translation of the Sanskrit Mrcchakatika, published by the University of Illinois in 1938.
During World War II, he worked in a highly secret cryptographic agency of the War Department in Washington, DC, and was cited for outstanding service to his country. After his work for the War Department, Dr. Oliver was awarded a Guggenheim Post-Service Fellowship, and during the years 1953 and 1954 he traveled to Italy on a Fulbright Research Fellowship to study Italian Renaissance manuscripts.
In 1954, alarmed by the ongoing political subversion of the United States, Professor Oliver threw himself into conservative activism. He participated in the creation of National Review magazine; he was one of the founders of the John Birch Society; he made numerous speeches before patriotic groups; he wrote hundreds of articles and reviews. Eventually, his disillusion with the conservative movement led him to become an avowed racial nationalist.

A jacketed hardcover of ALL of Revilo Oliver’s works together in one or two volumes would be perfect; I am sure that all copies will sell and the project pay for itself and beyond.

The Trap had been set to effectively, VERY effectively, undermine “conservatism,” turing it from Taft Conservatism – no foreign intervention – into Buckley conservatism – handmaiden of the Israel First crowd.
Effectively, Dr. Oliver was playing by Lucy’s play book, and he was about to be Charlie Brown, always trying to kick a football that was always pulled away. Yet, he kept trying because he was playing Their Game by Their Rules, which weren’t in writing, and weren’t The Rules he was told about.

National Review was bankrolled by Buckley’s Jewish friends; his support for Israel First became all too obvious, but it was masked by the words and phraes so beloved of Taft conservatives. Internally, he was, at least nominally, Taft; externally, he was Israel First.
Oliver signed up for Taft conservatism; he got Buckley conservatism, and he got blindsided.

A group that speaks at length about “Communists,” “Insiders,” International Bankers,” and “Internatonal Conspiracies, ” and the “United Nations.”
A group that never addresses the common thread that all of these organizations have in common, and a group that somehow always ends up on the losing side of every real world decision.
Almost like it was scripted, with them providing a useful outlet for American nationalists with an internationalist focus, with lots of excitment that lead to nothing that matters.

All of which would have been consigned to the dustbin of history, except for the remarkable efforts of Kevin Alfred Strom, who recognized the depth of scholarly learning in Dr. Oliver’s writings.
Kudos to Kevin Alfred Strom for this remarkable effort, which may develop in Mr. Strom being the heir to Dr. Oliver, with a difference that is focused on effectiveness.

Always, with the diligent student, the return to First Principles, which they usually took for granted, as their focus went for the contemporary, at the expense of the Eternal.
I suspect Dr. Oliver’s “disillusion with the conservative movement” (yes, conservatism WAS and IS a real “Movement, well financed externally, and united internally around a transcendent, unifiying Cause) came from the absolutely lack of effect it had.
As I understand it, Dr. Oliver was continually softly sabotaged in his efforts as he realized tthe common thread uniting all of his issues; meetings were cancelled without informing him, papers were mislaid, all with the effect that Dr. Oliver had no effect whatsoever, as he went beyond the matters for Form, and dealt with the matters of Substance.
I suspect a review of how the late Joe Sobran, and the late Sam Francis, became UnPersons, might provide useful parallels with the examples given to us by the life of Dr. Oliver.
On this point, Linder is right, and gets full marks.
All of these men woke up one morning to discover they had been softly, quietly, neutralized with the conservative movement. This realization hit them hard, and they realized the need for a countervailing, overarching theme to address the real issues that conservatism had only danced around.
What To DO About It remained problematical.
Race, which works so well for the Opposition, seems perfect.
Taking that issue and addressing it without sounding like some manufactured idiot takes skill, assertiveness, and intellectual ammunition.
It also takes time, and the money for you to keep going while everyone around you catches up.
Learn from the experience of Dr. Oliver, Joe Sobran, and Sam Francis.
Stop being Charlie Brown, stop trying to kick THEIR football, and be effective for a change; “effective,” as always, “in an apple pie, All-American, strictly legal sort of way.”

I have read this book four times through the years. The reason I find it so interesting is that it explains Olivers take on the jewish question in a quick way, fast to read but still contains a great deal of wisdom.
The greatest benefit of reading Oliver is that he conveys a worldview without sentimentality or adornment. He dosen’t villify the jews, instead he explains how their behaviour fits perfectly into a rough and cold world where all life always must fight for it’s survival.
I highly recommend this book to everyone seeking to understand the jewish question in a broader and deeper way.
