The De-Germanization of Late American Christianity

4,386 words

Christian apologist Ray Comfort brings the most compelling question of our time to a mass audience with his wildly successfully mini-documentary 180 and mini-history, Hitler, God, and the Bible. Comfort’s mini-theology has also been widely endorsed, with many of the leading figures in American evangelism collapsing all over each other Read more …

The Hunger Games

3,003 words

In a place once called “America,” there is no culture — there’s only marketing. Every several months, post-Americans obediently shuffle to the specified location to consume the latest mass product. Big Fan

2,445 words

It claims to be a black comedy but Big Fan is a horror movie. There are no supernatural creatures or masked serial killers, though there is violence and torture. The violence comes from the savage beating of the white protagonist by a black athlete. The torture is the characters enduring a vision of American life infinitely darker than American Beauty. There is no redemption, no one learns anything from the experience, and worst (or best) of all, you can’t help but laugh. Read more …
