My recent essay on “Identity and the Problem with Christianity” garnered a fair bit of criticism from Christian members or allies of Identitarianism. This was something I expected, as the thesis—that authentic Christianity is incompatible with any other form of identity—is neither conciliatory nor is it a consciously accepted precept of Christian theology. Imre Makovecz was one of the great architects of the late twentieth century and the most notable proponent of organic architecture in Hungary. His works are characterized by an idiosyncratic style that melds modern influences with motifs inspired by Hungarian folklore. He designed nearly five hundred buildings over the course of his life, about half of which were built.

Well, the unity didn’t last long. Immediately after Unite the Right, those who did not participate started attacking the speakers and organizers. For instance, Katie McHugh and AntiDem have used Unite the Right as a pretext to attack Richard Spencer. Now the speakers and organizers are blaming and disavowing one another. Richard Spencer, Eli Mosley, and Baked Alaska, for example, have disavowed Jason Kessler over a tweet about Heather Heyer, who joined the violent mob that attacked Unite the Right and died as a result. August 22nd will be the 25th anniversary of what is popularly called “Ruby Ridge.” Most readers my age or older will remember Ruby Ridge well, but it is possible there are some younger individuals reading this without that same cognizance of the events.
The name refers to a mountaintop in Northern Idaho where — in 1992 — a man named Randy Weaver and his family ended up in a prolonged, armed standoff with the federal government that ended in the death of his wife and 14-year-old son. (more…)
