Counter-Currents Valentine’s Day Special
The Vermont Teddy Bear is a Giant Phallus

bhl_largeImage_2_201301141,630 words

February 5, 2014

Last night I was so bored I actually turned on Fox News. I do this now and then, with the same sort of feeling I get when I pass a roadside accident and, against my better judgment, turn briefly to glimpse the carnage. It was around 10:30, so the execrable Sean Hannity was on. After a minute or so of the usual Obamacare coverage they went to a commercial. It was then that I received the revelation, and my life changed forever.  Read more …

Drive

DrivePoster1,325 words

Drive, the 2011 award-winning art-house crime thriller, is a modern retelling of the story of the knight in shining armor who saves a damsel in distress from the clutches of evil. Being modern, however, this is not a fairy tale that ends with “. . . happily ever after,” for the modern world cannot offer happiness for the heroic.

The film opens with a handsome young Nordic man (Ryan Gosling) driving through the dark streets of Los Angeles, alone in his 1973 Chevy Malibu. Read more …

All They Have Is Fear

How about that Canadian election, eh?

I suspect that most Counter-Currents readers, including some residents of the former Dominion itself,[1] would respond with a resounding “What?” or perhaps even a “Where? – are they still around?”  Read more …

Read more …

Wake up Americucks, Your Country Hates You

Spanish translation here

Who waves the flag in America?

Everyone waves them at political rallies, but transblack lesbian Democrats don’t put flags in their front yards. They don’t wear “these colors don’t run” t-shirts and they don’t fly mini-flags on the antennae of their trucks.

Jurassic World

1,278 words

JurassicworldI was a dinosaur kid, and it does not take much to reawaken the wonder. Thus I enjoyed 1993’s Jurassic Park a good deal, although I thought it much inferior to Michael Crichton’s book. The best thing about it, frankly, is John Williams’ wonderful music. That, and a droll little detail: “Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.” I never saw the first sequel, The Lost World (1997), but for some reason I saw Jurassic Park III (2001). Read more …

To Live & Die in L.A.

1,205 words

ToLiveandDieinLAJames O’Meara’s article on “Essential Films . . . & Others” was inspired by my “Ten Favorite Films,” but it inspired me in turn to reflect on my own list of essential films, essential defined by Coleridge as “that to which with the greatest pleasure the reader returns.” For many of my favorite films are not works to which I return with pleasure. Vertigo and Blue Velvet, for instance, are too emotionally harrowing to just pop in on a rainy afternoon. So this spurred me to reflect on the movies I watch, again and again, simply for pleasure: if I am under the weather, too tired to work, or just want to savor my solitude.  Read more …
