Oriental & Mediterranean Ancient Erotic Symbolism

villamystery2_small3,188 words

The theme of an original duality or polarity related to that of the sexes occurs in the traditions of almost all cultures. This duality is sometimes expressed in purely metaphysical terms, sometimes in that of divine or mythological figures, cosmic elements, principles, gods, and goddesses.

It seemed evident to the early historians of religion of recent times that this was due to anthropomorphism. In their opinion, as man had created his gods in his own image, Read more …

The White Knight vs. The Wire Monkey

Harlow's Monkey Experiments1,220 words

The first misconception to discard when grappling with modern feminism is the proposition that feminists are opposed to patriarchy — patriarchy being defined as the woman’s reliance on men for protection and provision. Modern women are no less reliant on men for protection and provision than they were in prehistoric times. Read more …

Em Defesa do Mal Gosto

Angelina Jolie, apotheosis by race-betrayal

Angelina Jolie, apotheosis by race-betrayal

1,676 words

English original here

Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 2

596 words

Breaking Dawn, Part 2 is the fifth and final movie of Mormon novelist Stephenie Meyer’s phenomenally popular Twilight Saga. I think that the Twilight Saga is highly significant, because it offers a systematic argument for traditional — and biological — sexual roles and morality in the form of a Gothic teen romance story involving vampires and werewolves. (I best summarize my take on the Twilight Saga in my review of Breaking Dawn, Part 1.) I also found the movies highly entertaining.

Breaking Dawn, Part 2, however, is a major disappointment. Read more …

Spiritual Warfare, Part 2:
The Betrayal & Defense of Amor

Dante Gabriel Rossetti, “The Damsel of the Holy Grail,” 1874

1,456 words

Part 2 of 2

In the virtue known as Amor, the particular personhood of the beloved is central—just as, in true spiritual realization, God is not an abstraction or an insubstantial wraith, but the most concrete Reality imaginable, one that is also (like the ultimate depths of any true person) infinitely beyond anything we can imagine. From the worldly point of view, love for particular persons is seen as mere bourgeois sentimentalism, Read more …
