Our deepest feelings can not be expressed by language.
Language often obscures and imposes beliefs,attitudes what a dominant group sanctions as rational.
The words may mean completely different things than you assume.
This is especially true when we are dealing with abstract ideas.
Ask yourself did this or that word had the same meaning 1000 or 2000 years ago
in different culture,different circumstances and context ?
Heidegger’s work is the foundation of Neil Evernden’s The Natural Alien, Humankind and Environment. A work that kicked me in the head and didn’t fully understand. I shall compare it with Savitri Devi’ Impeachment of Man.
I have heard the phrase “but Heidegger was a Nazi, you can’t read that.” So, of course I read it, but didn’t get what he was talking about.
My metaphysics professor literally yelled at me when I asked him some questions about Heideggerian metaphysics and he stated that perhaps “I was in the wrong class”! He went on a tirade for 20 minutes about Heidegger being a Nazi and a horrible human being. Naturally, I took his reaction as standard and dropped it, like many other valid points over the years. This is typically the nature of the “college experience” in the humanities. Undoubtedly, I can look forward to more of the same next fall in graduate school! It’s all a game, and in most ways a formality at this point. Keeping a low profile and avoiding certain topics is absolutely key to success. Hardly education. Alas…
