Remembering Corneliu Codreanu:
September 13, 1899–November 30, 1938
Greg Johnson
In honor of the birthday of Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, founder of the Romanian Iron Guard, I wish to draw your attention to the following works at Counter-Currents:
- Julius Evola, “The Tragedy of the Romanian ‘Iron Guard’”
- Greg Johnson, “Codreanu’s The Prison Notes”
- Theodore J. O’Keeffe, “Codreanu and the Iron Guard” (Czech translation here)
- Frank Martell, “The Rocky Road to Victory: Learning from Codreanu’s Mistakes”
- Christopher Thorpe, “The History of Corneliu Z. Codreanu and the Legionary Movement”
To learn more about Codreanu, read his For My Legionaries (The Iron Guard) and The Nest Leader’s Manual. Codreanu’s The Prison Notes is out of print, but it will be reprinted, and we will sell it again as soon as it becomes available. The Prison Notes also contains Julius Evola’s complete writings on Codreanu and the Iron Guard.

A good tribute to Codreanu.
Here’s another good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sLpku245vk
By the way, I also found that someone tried to translate Iron Guard songs and put them up on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRhZnLKmifN34-LMEXDS_pIRsg8An7Wzz

Not to mention this wonderful video of Codreanu and the Iron Guard that even was included as a ‘video of the day’ here on Counter-Currents, before the link went dead due to the sad circumstances regarding the owner of the YouTube-account. Some kind soul has now reposted it, and I really recommend everyone watches it, and of course (as always) read the writings of Evola on the Iron Guard and Codreanu. Inspiring, to say the least!
Volume 5 (2011) of the “Thoughts and Perspectives” series from Black Front Press, edited by Troy Southgate, is devoted to Codreanu, with essays by John Howells, Dimitris Michalopoulos, Troy Southgate, Charles Krafft, Keith Preston, Codreanu, and myself.
Can anyone add any info on this film footage shot by Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși? It seems to be an Iron Guard youth event.

If the person who put up that video is correct in regards to the date on which that took place (1939) then it is almost impossible that that footage is of the Iron Guard. That was during King Carol II’s dictatorship after which the Legion/Iron Guard was already an illegal and heavily persecuted organization which was forced to exist at a completely underground level; there is no way they could stage a public rally like that (and policemen even appear to be present in the video). It also needs to be kept in mind that King Carol himself created a “Fascist” type of organization, the so-called “National Renaissance Front,” which held public events like the one in the video (Evola once aptly called this attempt to replace the Legion a “surrogate nationalism”). Finally, it is stRiki-Eiking that there is no Iron Guard/Legionary symbolism anywhere in the video. I have also seen other footage of Carol’s regime and it looks just like what you see in the video you linked; do not be surprised that you would see something like this in Romania that is not the Iron Guard. So we can actually assume that this footage is of Carol’s organization, not the Iron Guard; it was simply mistaken to be the other way around by the YouTube uploader.
Agree, it’s a Străjeria youth rally.
