gj-cover493 words

The first bit of good news: Since our last update, we have had 10 donations ranging from $10 to $5,000 dollars, totaling $6,220. Because of our $10,000 matching grant, that figure has been doubled to $12,440. Thank you!

This means our grand total so far is $36,722.41. So we are more than three quarters of the way to our goal $50,000, with $1,727 of our matching grant remaining.  Read more …

Henry Rollins’ Muscular Liberalism

3,438 words

When David Cameron coined the phrase “muscular liberalism” years ago, I like to imagine that he was thinking of Henry Rollins, who has long embodied a thoroughly peculiar combination of party-line leftism and masculine aggression. Rollins went from being the lead singer of Black Flag, to fronting his own Rollins Band in the ’90s, to being a successful indie author and owner of his own small publishing company, to being a film and television actor and now a regular columnist for L.A. Weekly. Read more …

Orwell on Politics & the English Language

orwell1,420 words

George Orwell’s classic essay “Politics and the English Language” ostensibly teaches us how to write well. More importantly, however, it teaches us how to think well before we write. According to Orwell, slovenly thought leads to slovenly writing as much as slovenly writing leads back to slovenly thought. In this essay, Orwell derides the politics of his day as being imbued with conformity of expression and the distancing of this expression from Truth. Read more …

Marcus Aurelius on Tribe & Passion

marcusaurelius2,026 words

The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius are a remarkable spiritual diary and, in general, a sure way for the modern reader to imbue himself with the practical wisdom of our ancient forefathers. That said, I do not believe we should uncritically defer to anything, and on two points in particular, I believe comment and criticism are warranted.

Firstly, a pervasive theme of Marcus’ is his struggle to control his judgment and emotions, in particular anger, and thus be as detached and “philosophical” as possible. Read more …

The Sound of Whiteness Under Siege:
Punk Rock Viewed From the Right

2,103 words

whiteminoritySteve Sailer recently compared the Alt-Right to punk rock. It’s an apt analogy in more ways than one, and as someone whose adolescence was informed by that music, it’s one that I readily appreciated. I’ve long thought of writing an essay about the implicit whiteness of punk and hardcore music, especially since it’s a rather under-appreciated genre on the AltRight.  Read more …

The Alt Right vs. the Gun Right

montana_frog2,057 words

There are issues around which we rally, and then there are issues around which we let other people rally. And as long as these issues can coexist, alliances can be formed. I think that the Alt Right and gun rights advocates (whom I will collectively and symmetrically refer to as the Gun Right) have stumbled into such an alliance in the arena of American politics.

The Alt Right & Conservatism

elephantbones2,142 words

Conservatism, said Russell Kirk, is “neither a religion nor an ideology.” Today, its most stalwart defenders believe it is both. “True conservatism,” we are told, is under attack from the Alt Right, a shadowy group which encompasses everyone from the CEO of Donald Trump’s campaign to anonymous Twitter accounts who worship a cartoon frog. Because they do not agree with conservative “principles,” the so-called “true conservatives” are already fantasizing about another Beltway Right “purge” of the unbelievers.  Read more …

Why I Write for Counter-Currents

Gabriël Metsu, Man Writing a Letter, circa 1664-1666

Gabriël Metsu, Man Writing a Letter, circa 1664-1666

2,716 words

I grew up in an incredibly small, overwhelmingly Southern Baptist town. The kind of place where almost everyone had some idea of when any given person in town had or hadn’t walked up in the main church (stationed straight across from the main grocery store) during the altar call to ask the Holy Spirit to come into their hearts, and “conservatism” meant being among the people keeping track more than anything else.

This discussion has become particularly prominent in our circles since Hillary gave her lackluster speech on our movement and warned everyone about the dangers of our cartoon frog. Read more …

People on the Alt Right tend to look forward a lot. After all, a future consisting of viable white ethnostates in Europe or North America is something we all want. What helps fuel this, however, is looking backwards into history and reminding ourselves of how good things were before mass Third-World immigration started to bring down our countries. Read more …
