Paternalism means treating people like children. Children lack the maturity and wisdom to make their own decisions. Thus they need parents — or people playing the paternal role — to tell them what to do and, on occasion, to force them to do it.
Most people have no problem with paternalism when dealing with actual children, as well as the retarded, the senile, and the insane. (more…)

One of the essays I have returned to most frequently in the last several years has been George Orwell’s “Politics of the English Language.” Much of the much-maligned polarization in our civic culture comes down to unstated disagreements on the meanings of terms, and as Orwell said, our language “becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts.” (more…)

Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism
Rev. ed., New York: Verso, 2006After the Second World War, a large portion of the academic class went into overdrive dissecting and pathologizing the ideas and forces, both actual and concocted, which served as the foundations for nationalism. (more…)

As (post-)Christian moderns, we are twice handicapped in trying to understand the religions of the ancient pagan states such as Sparta and Rome. Where we tend to think of religious belief as universalistic, other-worldly, monolatrous, and dogmatic, ancient paganism was particularistic, world-embracing, polytheistic (almost ecumenical), and non-dogmatic (but ritualistic). One of the few things which can be stated with any certainty about the consequences of the recent Austrian elections on October 15 is that they are unpredictable, both for Austria and for European politics. The hard Left is out of parliament, the Social Democrats are in disarray, the anti-immigration course of the conservatives under a new, young leader has reaped dividends, and the “far Right” FPÖ has entered a coalition government. What inspired you to write White Like You?
Failure, basically. As a writer prior to my time at Counter-Currents, I had met with consistent failure. In the 1990s and 2000s I had written several novels, all of which face-planted when I attempted to find a publisher. It was very discouraging. (more…)

The following is the text of a speech delivered on June 1, 1967 at the University of Marburg.[1]
Prince Friedrich Christian of Schaumburg-Lippe (1906-83) was the youngest son of Prince Georg of Schaumburg-Lippe and Princess Marie-Anne of Saxe-Altenburg. Appalled at the quick abdications of the German princes during the German Revolution of 1918-19, (more…)

Published pseudonymously in 1850 in the influential journal Neue Zeitschrift für Musik, “Judaism in Music” is both the most-often cited and least-often read of Richard Wagner’s voluminous prose works. Although commonly described as a vile work of hate speech or as a model for the breathless prose style of Der Stürmer, Wagner’s essay is actually rather mild and extremely clinical in its assessment of the mostly deleterious influence of Jews in German culture. “L’ebraismo nel mondo antico,” La Vita Italiana, July 1938
Trans. Das GletscherkreuzOne of the tactical arguments most commonly used against those who bring up the Jewish problem today, is that anti-Semitism is a mere fad, an imported ideology, an attempt to emulate German racism and Nazism, something which has no real place in our country. (more…)

For those who don’t know, how did you end up creating Unite the Right?
It all came as a consequence of an exposé I did on Wes Bellamy, the Charlottesville Vice-Mayor who is pushing to tear down European-American monuments, for “reparations” policies and other anti-white nonsense. (more…)
