Marcus Aurelius on Tribe & Passion

marcusaurelius2,026 words

The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius are a remarkable spiritual diary and, in general, a sure way for the modern reader to imbue himself with the practical wisdom of our ancient forefathers. That said, I do not believe we should uncritically defer to anything, and on two points in particular, I believe comment and criticism are warranted.

Firstly, a pervasive theme of Marcus’ is his struggle to control his judgment and emotions, in particular anger, and thus be as detached and “philosophical” as possible. Read more …

Mircea Eliade & the Rediscovery of the Sacred

Mircea Eliade et la Redécouverte du Sacré (YouTube, Romanian subtitles)

Mircea Eliade was a traditionalist Romanian novelist and philosopher. Following the disaster of the Second World War, he moved to Paris and Chicago, becoming a respected and influential historian of religions. He acquired something of the status of a guru, as poignantly told in the 1987 documentary Mircea Eliade et la Redécouverte du Sacré. Read more …

The American Empire: Triumph & Expansion of the Federal State

The story of America is also one of the steady fall of Jeffersonian democracy and the rise of Hamiltonian plutocracy, with an all-powerful federal government in symbiosis with a ruling oligarchy. This was not a given however, because the Republic created by the Constitution was actually a regime of divided sovereignty. Read more …

An important project for the Alternative Right is the reclaiming of the ethno-nationalist and inegalitarian strands in Western thinking. This is often fairly easy to do: almost everything written before the 1960s was in some way or another politically-incorrect by the standards of today. I have previously attempted to do this regarding aristocratic, racial, and nationalist thought in Alexis de Tocqueville’s classic study, Democracy in America.[1] Read more …

Warcraft: The Beginning

897 words

llane.0I do feel there has been a kind of concentration of pop culture in recent years: everything blurs together now. I don’t know if video game makers were original in the past but, I believe, the fact that a given game was an artisanal to semi-pro effort, more or less isolated, meant that titles often had a rather distinctive character (e.g. Civilization II, Starcraft). Now it’s all a bit of a mush.

Case in point: the new film Warcraft: The Beginning, the first based on the venerable RTS/MMORPG series by Blizzard. Read more …

Hitler as YouTube Star

We truly live in a blessed age, we Internet denizens. Never before has it been so easy for us to share controversial ideas and suppressed facts. The power of cultural elites — whether in television, radio, the press, academia, publishing, etc. — to control the flow of information and representation was once a monopoly. Today this monopoly is broken and their power diminishes every year no matter what they do. They may tighten their grip to keep hold of their influence, but this runs like sand through their fingers . . .  Read more …

The French Lobby Rises:
Anti-French Rapper Purged from Verdun Commemoration

1,325 words

VerdunThe degeneration of European Man is visibly evident in the state of our so-called elites. They too have grown terribly soft, culturally ignorant, and ultimately wholly without honor. One sign of this is the disgusting decline in the intellectual and moral quality of official culture, including commemorations of major events.

Consider the following. In 1979, the authorities invited no less a figure than the German writer Ernst Jünger to commemorate that titanic fratricidal struggle which was the Battle of Verdun. Read more …

Understanding Hitler & the Third Reich

HitlerSketch3,879 words

Because of their enormous world-historical impact, Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich are supremely important to understanding the twentieth century and the development of Western civilization. These are also supremely controversial and difficult topics. Indeed, Hitler is almost universally considered to have been the most evil man to have ever lived. If, as Éric Zemmour and Élie Barnavi have noted, commemoration of the Shoah has replaced Christianity as the West’s civil religion, then Hitler very much plays the role of Satan. Read more …

In contrast with the mediocre majority of mankind, there is the rare genius. There is reason to think Hitler sympathized with and perhaps attempted to live up to the model of the Schopenhauerian genius. Read more …

The Psychology of the Judeocritic

It is a standard canard to describe critics of Jewish power, privilege, and ethnocentrism (otherwise known as “racism”) as somehow psychopathological. One term that is often used is “obsessive.” Of course, Jews tend to be far more interested in themselves than their critics are, but this self-regard is never stigmatized as “obsessive.” But still, there is no point in denying that some anti-Semites are as obsessive, monomaniacal, and self-defeating as Captain Ahab.
